Preparation for Sungard Summit 2009

I am delighted to have the opportunity to speak at Sungard Summit 2009, to be held March 22-25, 2009 in Philadelphia. This conference will bring together users of Banner, Sungard’s suite of Higher Education Enterprise Resource Planning software offerings, and I will be presenting on the topic “Connecting the Dots: Training a Campus”, in keeping with the “Connect!” theme of this year’s get-together. Putting the presentation together was quite a bit of fun, as I got to relive basically everything I’ve done since joining Missouri State University’s Computer Services staff in October 2007. A few highlights of what you will get if you attend my session include:

  • Planning: Training doesn’t happen by itself; it takes hard work and dedication… and buy-in from the higher-ups.
  • Developing materials: Anyone can throw together a PowerPoint presentation. It takes hard work and dedication (do I detect a pattern here?) to put together meaningful, useful materials that your attendees will actually use.
  • Facing challenges: Money. Time. Resources. There are never enough of any of these, but put a basket of chocolate in your training room and any challenge can be overcome.
  • Training a campus: There are a lot of people who need to know a lot of new things. The first thing to do when you have a roomful of them? Smile, introduce yourself, and tell them where the restrooms are.
  • Looking back: Yes, we are proud of our training effrorts, but (don’t tell anyone!) there were a few hiccups.
  • And much, much more!

The tricky part will be keeping the session down to my allotted hour!

So, if you will be attending Summit this year, please feel free to stop by. Currently, I am scheduled to present at 9:30 am on Wednesday, March 25; the course number is 0669. I would love to see you!
