2012: A Retrospective

2012 has been a pretty amazing year. Ryan and I welcomed baby Julian in October, and we celebrated many weddings (Elizabeth and Andrew, Sara and Dustin, Chris and Sarah, Krista and Zane, Sarah and Carl). Jessica and I spent a day in Branson to celebrate our five-year match anniversary with Big Brothers Big Sisters. I started a new position at Missouri State University and am enjoying my new responsibilities quite a bit. It wasn’t all good news, though; Ryan’s grandfather passed away after a terrible illness, and he is greatly missed.

I committed to posting one photo per day in 2012, and achieved my goal, although some photos did get posted late. I even managed to post one the day I gave birth! I want to revisit a few of my favorites for the year and add a few extra notes. Click the photo to see the description I posted, if you want; new notes are below each photo.

I loaned this bass to Matthew later in the year so that he could learn how to play and decide if he liked it enough to buy one of his own (he did).

Ryan and I volunteered a couple of times at Ozarks Food Harvest this year, sorting cans and filling boxes. We would have volunteered more, but…

This was the day I figured out I was eating for two; obviously, Ryan and I didn’t tell anyone (except family) for a while.

Playing with a Canon EOS 60D in prepariation for photographing MSU’s spring fashion show, and walking with Erin and her dogs at Nathanael Greene Park.

Krista and Zane got married! I wore (maternity) jeans (the horror) because I had gained just enough weight at that point that I couldn’t zip the dress I had picked out – and I realized this that morning.

One of my favorite shots from the fashion show. I had been to the ER a couple of days prior to check on a potential pregnancy problem (baby was fine, and they told me I was going to have a girl…), and so I got to have two assistants for the day, which was pretty cool.

I visited Beth and Andrew in Baltimore, and we made a special trip to DC to see Discovery in her new home at the Udvar-Hazy Center. We barely made it before closing time because of insane traffic, so I only got to spend about 20 minutes admiring my favorite space shuttle. Clearly, I need another trip out there. Also, it was during this visit that Beth and I picked out her wedding dress (squeee!).

Can’t get enough.

We had our mid-pregnancy anatomy scan right after I got home from Baltimore. We found out were expecting a healthy baby boy! Jessica and I looked all over Springfield for these letter blocks; you’d think they’d’ve been easier to find, but apparently not.

Ryan and I had talked about redoing our “office” for some time, and with my “craft room” slated to be converted to the baby’s room, we decided to get our rears in gear. Ryan, his dad, and his (now) brother-in-law laid laminate flooring, and Traci, Erin, and Ryan painted the walls.

Erin and I really enjoyed this show. I also managed to spill a peppermint spray all over everything in my purse. Go me.

Baby Julian was born via C-section today at 4:46 pm; he weighed 9 lbs 11.5 oz at birth and was 22 1/2″ long. Here, he and his daddy share a moment after we got back from the operating room. I am so incredibly blessed.

Slightly out of order as posted, but in order chronologically. Apparently I developed a fondness for collage photos here at the end of the year.

A little blurry, but a great pose and a fitting end to a great evening. And now I can breathe a sigh of relief, because the last couple of weeks have been so busy I have been lucky to get four hours of sleep a night.

And so 2012 is winding down, and I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and amazing 2013! I am planning to do a weekly photo project this year, as opposed to daily, so stay tuned for more photos!
